Chronology

The Nebraska P-16 Initiative was first established in 1997 when the University of Nebraska of Regents Academic Affairs Committee met with representatives of the State Board of Education to discuss common interests.

September 5, 1997
University of Nebraska Board of Regents Academic Affairs Committee met with representatives of the State Board of Education to discuss common interests including standards, teacher preparation, and a P-16 partnership.

May 20, 1998
The 1st Annual P-16 Initiative Retreat was held at The Cornhusker Hotel in collaboration with the Education Trust. More than 100 plus people were in attendance.
July
The Education Trust held a summer conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Representatives of the Nebraska Department of Education and the University of Nebraska attended.
October 23
The Board of Regents Academic Affairs Committee met with representatives of the State Board of Education. Discussion focused on continuing the P-16 partnership effort. The Board of Regents took action to support the P-16 partnership at this meeting.

July 1999
The Education Trust held a summer conference in Stowe, Vermont. Representatives of the Department of Education and the University of Nebraska attended
September 10
The State Board of Education approved a resolution supporting P-16 state coordination and partnering with the University of Nebraska to form a P-16 Steering Committee and a Statewide P-16 Advisory Council. October 1
The State Board of Education met with the University of Nebraska Board of Regents to discuss a PreK-16 partnership.
October 1 The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a P-16 Resolution.

January 1, 2000
The first P-16 Steering Committee meeting was held.
January 19
The first P-16 Steering Committee meeting was held.
April 5 The second P-16 Steering Committee meeting was held.
May 16
The 2nd Annual P-16 Initiative Conference of the Statewide Advisory Council and Steering Committee was held at The Cornhusker Hotel.
July 26
Representatives from the Department of Education, University of Nebraska, and the PreK-16 Steering Committee attended the NASH/Education Trust State Systems K-16 Summer Meeting in Park City, Utah.
August 7
The third P-16 Steering Committee meeting was held.
August 23
The Work Committee, consisting of representatives from the Department of Education, Private Colleges and Universities, and the University of Nebraska, met to discuss standards alignment, and to follow-up on the goals adopted by the P-16 Steering Committee at their August 7, 2000 meeting.
September 13
The Work Committee met to discuss the November 7, 2000 P-16 Mathematics Alignment Meeting that was held at the Nebraska Center.
September 23
The Nebraska Department of Education received verbal approval from the U.S. Department of Education for a $104,220 supplemental grant to support the Nebraska P-16 Initiative.
October 13
The Work Committee met to discuss the logistics of the November 7, 2000 Mathematics Alignment Meeting.
November 7
A P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force Meeting was held for the orientation process on standards alignment utilizing mathematics. Representatives from the Nebraska community colleges, private colleges and universities, state colleges, University of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Education, and K-12 educators participated. Two representatives from Wisconsin presented the results of their states' P-16 efforts. The representatives also offered assistance as Nebraska moved forward in the alignment process.

January 31, 2001
The 3rd Annual P-16 Statewide Conference was held at The Embassy Suites in Lincoln, Nebraska. Representatives from the University of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Education, Nebraska community colleges, private colleges and universities, state colleges, and K-12 educators attended.
March 15
A Regional P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force meeting was held in North Platte.
March 20
A Regional P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force meeting was held in Fremont.
March 28
The Work Committee met to discuss follow-up on the Mathematics Alignment Task Force regional meetings.
May 11
The fourth P-16 Steering Committee was held.
July 18
The Work Committee met to discuss progress on the P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force.
July 26
Representatives from the Department of Education, University of Nebraska, and the Association of Independent Colleges & Universities attended the NASH/Education Trust State Systems K-16 Summer Meeting in Fish Camp, California.
August 21

The Work Committee met to discuss the P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force final document.
December 1
The 4th Annual P-16 Statewide Conference was held at The Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. Representatives from the University of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Education, Nebraska community colleges, private colleges and universities, state colleges, K-12 educators, P-16 Steering Committee, P-16 Advisory Council, PreK-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force, and P-16 Language Arts/English Alignment Task Force were invited.
P-16 Language Arts/English Alignment Task Force co-chairs and planning committee met to develop plans for the statewide alignment activity.
The Nebraska P-16 Initiative website was launched.

April 1, 2002
The 6th P-16 Steering Committee Meeting was held.
April 18
The first P-16 Language Arts/English Task Force meeting was held at the Cornhusker Hotel.
July 18
Representatives from the Nebraska Department of Education, University of Nebraska, Association of Independent Colleges & Universities, Nebraska Community Colleges, Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education, and the Nebraska State Education Association attended the NASH/Education Trust State Systems K-16 Summer meeting in Englewood, Colorado.
August 21
The Work Committee met to discuss a publication on financial aid and the upcoming Annual Statewide P-16 Conference.
August 26
The 7th P-16 Steering Committee Meeting was held.
September 25
The Work Committee met to discuss the upcoming Annual Statewide P-16 Conference.
October 11
The Work Committee met to discuss possible topics for the joint meeting of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and the Nebraska State Board of Education as well as the Annual Statewide P-16 Meeting.
December 1
Joseph P. Rowson, University of Nebraska Assistant Vice President for External Affairs and Director of Communications is named Coordinator of the Nebraska P-16 Initiative.

The Postsecondary English Consortium of the Language Arts/English Task Force met at Country Inn & Suites in Lincoln, NE, for an all day conference.

The Fourth Annual P-16 Statewide Meeting was held at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, NE.
