Joe Rowson has served in administrative posts in both the K-12 and higher education sectors over the past 35 years, beginning with five years on the staff of an area education agency serving school districts in central Iowa. He was communications director and assistant to the superintendent of the Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska from 1974 to 1985 and has been with the University of Nebraska for the past 20 years, serving successively as director of public affairs, associate to the president, and assistant vice president for communications.
He currently serves as Coordinator of the Nebraska P-16 Initiative, a coalition of educators, business leaders, and state government officials who work to improve student success, increase college-going and graduation rates, and enhance the quality of the state’s workforce. He also serves on the steering committees of Civics Nebraska, which promotes increased student understanding of and engagement in the democratic process, and FutureForce Nebraska, which helps prepare students for careers in Nebraska’s targeted growth industries.
Joe earned his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University and master’s degree from Iowa State University, both in journalism. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America’s College of Fellows and is active in community affairs, including the Salvation Army and Lincoln Downtown Rotary.
