English & Language Arts

The P-16 Language Arts/English Alignment Task Force convened in December 2001. Chris Gallagher, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Nebraska and Kim Larson, Language Arts Specialist at the Nebraska Department of Education, and Suzanne Ratzlaff, Heartland Community Schools are co-chairs of the Task Force.

Members of a small planning committee met on December 10, 2001 to discuss initiating this alignment process. The first meeting of this Task Force was held on April 18, 2002 at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, NE. Approximately 60 Task Force members participated in this one-day conference.

The co-chairs of this Task Force have been meeting periodically during the past few months to determine the next steps of the alignment process.

A meeting of the Postsecondary English Consortium was held December 10, 2002 at the Country Inn & Suites in Lincoln, NE. Approximately 30 postsecondary Task Force members attended this one-day workshop.

A meeting of the full Task Force was held on January 23, 2003 at the Country Inn and Suites Omaha Room. This meeting was scheduled in conjunction with the January 24, 2003, Annual P-16 Statewide Conference which will be held at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln.

On November 23, 2002 the Co-chairs of the Task Force, Chris Gallagher, Kim Larson, and Suzanne Ratzlaff, were awarded the 2002 Academic Freedom Coalition Award by The Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska for their efforts towards P-16.

The Task Force last met on held on April 21, 2003 at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln.
