The P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force convened in November 2000. An orientation meeting of this Task Force was held on November 11, 2001 at the Nebraska Center for Continuing Education where representatives from the Nebraska community colleges, private colleges and universities, state colleges, University of Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Education, and K-12 educators assembled to discuss future responsibilities of the Task Force. Two representatives from Wisconsin presented to the Task Force the results of their states’ P-16 efforts.

Gordon Woodward and Buren (Skip) Thomas, University of Nebraska, served as co-chairs for the P-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force. Deb Romanek, Nebraska Department of Education, assisted the co-chairs in their efforts to align the math standards.

Individuals on the Task Force were called to the table to help map a process on how a seamless prekindergarten through college system could be developed in the area of mathematics. Subject matter competencies for the University of Nebraska system and the Nebraska math standards for K-12 education were used as a framework for this project.

Members of the PreK-16 Mathematics Alignment Task Force participated in the second annual P-16 Statewide Conference that was held on January 31, 2001, at The Embassy Suites as well as the third annual P-16 Statewide Conference which was held December 10, 2001 at The Cornhusker Hotel.

Task Force members ventured out into the Nebraska winter weather on March 15, 2001 to attend the first regional meeting held in North Platte, Nebraska, and other members of the Task Force participated in the second regional meeting held in Fremont, Nebraska on March 20, 2001.

Throughout the entire alignment process, Task Force members and other educators across the state of Nebraska were consulted for their input on the final resource document that will be disseminated in February 2002. This document will be distributed to educators across the state of Nebraska and is now available by clicking on the below link.
