The three co-chairs of the Nebraska P-16 Initiative --a collaborative effort of leaders in education, business and state government to improve Nebraska students’ educational success at all levels-- have announced changes in the staffing of the program.

Joe Rowson, who has served as coordinator of the program, will become a senior fellow –a half-time assignment. A national search for a new Nebraska P-16 coordinator is underway. Nebraska Commissioner of Education Doug Christensen, EducationQuest Foundation President and CEO Liz Fieselman and University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken co-chair the Nebraska P-16 Steering Committee.

“When Joe requested partial retirement, we recognized an opportunity to continue to take advantage of his many years of experience in both the K-12 sector an in postsecondary education while also expanding the professional staff devoted to the initiative,” Milliken said. “This staff expansion will allow Nebraska to significantly strengthen its current P-16 efforts and position the program strategically for the future.”

Joe Rowson, became part-time coordinator of Nebraska P-16 in 2002, and was named full-time coordinator when the program was reorganized in January 2005. Some 26 business, education, government and diversity organizations are now involved in the program and support it with financial contributions and other resources.
